Summary: Investing in the fruit of self control.

Step 1

Read Galatians 5:22-23:

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law."

Are you ready to make your investment in the Fruit of Self Control?

Step 2

Read Matthew 5:38-42:

“You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth’. But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also. And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you."

Go to 'DOCUMENTS' and read Oswald Chambers comments on these verses in Matthew.

How well have you released your feelings of hurt and anger over the people and/or circumstances that have recently offended you?

Step 5

Read James 1: 2-4 and 12:

"Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything."

"Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him."

Allow the word to penetrate, then select 'Successful" when are ready to proceed.

Get quiet and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you, given your present trials (including frustrations, annoyances, etc.), what it means to "persevere under trial".

Write down what you receive.

Step 7

Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you what it means to "receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him."

Write down what you receive.

Step 8

Read 2 Corinthians 4:17:

"For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all."

Again, allow the word to penetrate before proceeding.

Do you agree that God can allow troubles, set backs, rejections, betrayals, etc. to "achieve for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all"?

Do you agree that there are times when Christ is asking us to endure our hardships rather than fix them or confront the people we perceived caused them?
