Summary: Investing in the fruit of goodness.

Step 1

Read Galatians 5:22-23:

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law."

Are you ready to make an investment in the Fruit of Goodness?

Step 2

Read the two definitions for the word 'holy' listed below:

a) Websters defines 'holy' as: 'Exalted or worthy of complete devotion as one perfect in goodness and righteousness.'

b) The Hebrew word for holy is “qodesh” which means: “Apartness, set-apartness, separateness, sacredness”.

Select 'Successful' when you are finished.

Step 3

Read 1 Peter:15-16:

"But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”

Select 'Successful' when you are finished.

Step 4

What, if anything, does it mean to you to be 'holy'?

Write your answer in the space provided.

Step 5

Go to 'DOCUMENTS' and read Oswald Chambers' comments on 1 Peter 1:15-16.

Select 'Successful' when you are finished.

Step 6

Oswald writes:

"We must continually remind ourselves of the purpose of life. We are not destined to happiness, nor to health, but to holiness..."

Later he adds:

"God has only one intended destiny for mankind— holiness. His only goal is to produce saints. God is not some eternal blessing-machine for people to use, and He did not come to save us out of pity— He came to save us because He created us to be holy."

How aligned are the goals of your life with God's goal and purpose -which is not to help you become increasingly more happy, but to help you become increasingly more holy?

Step 7

Oswald goes on to state:

"Today we have far too many desires and interests, and our lives are being consumed and wasted by them. Many of them may be right, noble, and good, and may later be fulfilled, but in the meantime God must cause their importance to us to decrease."

How much is God working to decrease the importance of your 'right, noble and good' desires and interests that are not holy?

Step 8

Describe how God is working in your current circumstances to decrease the importance of these desires and interests. Be specific.

Step 9

Take a moment now to pray.

Ask God to search you and reveal the desires and interest in your life that may be 'right, noble and good' but not holy.

Write down what you receive in the space provided.

(Note: If you do not receive anything, search your conscience and see what desires or interest come to your mind.)

Step 10

Based on what you received, is there anything you would like to repent of?

If so, you can do so privately or in the space provided.

Step 11

Oswald Continues:

"The only thing that truly matters is whether a person will accept the God who will make him holy. At all costs, a person must have the right relationship with God."

Do you agree that "at all costs" you must have a right relationship with God?

Step 12

Oswald concludes with:

"Never tolerate, because of sympathy for yourself or for others, any practice that is not in keeping with a holy God. Holiness means absolute purity of your walk before God, the words coming from your mouth, and every thought in your mind— placing every detail of your life under the scrutiny of God Himself. Holiness is not simply what God gives me, but what God has given me that is being exhibited in my life."

Regarding the ways God is working in your life to make you holy, is there anything you would like to thank Him for?

If so, you can do so privately, or in the space provided.

Step 13

Keep in mind that choosing holiness over what is 'right, noble and good' is a process, not a one time event.

For that reason, this Trail is now in your library to help you to continue to pursue your relationship with God. You can schedule it whenever you like.

Step 14

How much has this Trail increased the fruit of God's goodness in your current circumstances?
